Welcome

We are delighted to welcome you to West London College to start your apprenticeship journey.  We are passionate in supporting you in every step of your apprenticeship journey, these are the people that will be available to you while you are a student with us:

Apprenticeship Officer

Whose job it is to ensure you as the apprentice are happy with the programme, employer and to help with any concerns throughout the course of the training. The Apprenticeship Officer will also carry out the enrolment paperwork, which confirms your apprenticeship has been agreed by yourself, your employer and the College.

Your Tutor

They will provide you with teaching and learning in a classroom setting on your college days. They will work with you to make sure that you have all of the underpinning knowledge you need to competently use equipment safely in the workplace and to pass your assessments at college.

Your Assessor

They will guide you through your apprenticeship and work with you to generate evidence for your qualification and provide you with feedback to help you achieve your apprenticeship. They will also ensure that you are fully prepared for the end-point assessment. In order to achieve this, your Assessor will carry out a progress review with you and your employer every 12 weeks.

Induction

On the first day of college, you will be shown around the campus, have all facilities explained to you and introduced to the workshop and classrooms you will be studying in while at college. You will also be provided with a more detailed outline of your training plan that you will follow throughout your apprenticeship - Please see the Induction slides for more information.

Roadmap

To achieve your apprenticeship, you will be required to learn and gain valuable knowledge, skills and behaviours both within the workplace and at college.

This will include spending at least 20% of your working hours completing college-based learning at one of our sites.

Triparty progress reviews will  be conducted every 3 months with yourself, your employer and assessor to ensure that you remain on track to achieve your apprenticeship.

Roadmap to achieving your apprenticeship

What is off-the job training?

Apprenticeship roadmap diagram.JPG

As part of your apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to learn new knowledge, skills and behaviours outside of your day-to-day work duties.

This will take place within your normal contracted working hours and will include attending college for 1 day a week. Examples may include, work shadowing, practical learning, mentoring and industry visits. Please see the useful guide for more information.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed to check the knowledge, skills and behaviours you have learned throughout the apprenticeship. This is called an end-point assessment and will be an opportunity to showcase the skills you have learned during your apprenticeship. The end-point assessment is different for each apprenticeship and can include practical assessments, a project, tests or observation in the workplace.
