SAFEGUARDING

Interim DSL: Alex Rolfe
-
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team at WLC ensures all learners are safe, supported, and well.
-
We provide help with issues like mental health, work stress, problems at home, homelessness, or relationship difficulties.
-
If we can't assist directly, we can connect you with someone who can.
-
We collaborate closely with local organizations, including mental health services, social services, the police, and local charities.
-
If you're concerned about someone or need help, click the pink button above to fill in a form.
-
Forms are reviewed by the Safeguarding and Wellbeing team within one working day.
-
For immediate assistance, complete the form and contact the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) or DDSL (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead) by phone or in person.
These are examples of very subtle concerns that should also be reported to Safeguarding:

-
Withdrawal or isolation from peers
-
Subtle changes in appearance or hygiene
-
Unexplained absences or tardiness
-
Inappropriate use of technology
-
Overly familiar relationships with staff
-
Reluctance to make eye contact or sudden changes in body language
-
A student becoming unusually secretive about their personal life

Meet the Team
Safeguarding and Wellbeing
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Team together covers all three campuses that make up WLC. We all have our own areas of expertise, but you can talk to any of us about any difficulties you're having, in or outside of college.

Daniel Bristow-Bailey
Head of Safeguarding and Attendance
Daniel is the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) for the whole college and manages the team. He's been working at WLC since 2021. Before that, he worked in the mental health sector, supporting adults and young people in a variety of organisations across West London.

Jon Samson
LAC Co-ordinator
Jon supports learners at WLC who are in care or who are care-leavers, offering help to the learners directly and working with Social Services and Virtual Schools. He works Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays across all three sites.

Maria Sevilla Vasquez
Progress Mentor
Maria works at Ealing Green on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. When she's not at WLC she's working to complete her BSc in Psychology; she wrote her dissertation on young people's use of social media.

Charlotte Poulter
Wellbeing Advisor
Charlotte is employed by Mind, the mental health charity, but works full-time at West London College, supporting learners one-to-one with their mental wellbeing and running training and workshops for staff and learners.

Alfie Heaps
Deputy Safeguarding Lead
Alfie is the Deputy DSL, working on day-to-day safeguarding issues and covering for Dan as needed. Alfie started at WLC as a student in the Sports Department, so knows what it's like studying at WLC.

Morvarid Taghrizi
Progress Mentor
Morvarid is the most recent addition to our team - she's a full-time Progress Mentor, mostly working in Hammersmith. Morvarid has an MSc in Child Development and has worked in a variety of schools, colleges and clinical settings, helping children and young people.

Michelle Chamberlain
Progress Mentor
Michelle is our Progress Mentor at Southall - she's been working at WLC for several years, always in a pastoral or Advice and Guidance role. She works Mondays to Thursdays - you can usually find her in her office on the ground floor in Southall, near Reception.
