Financial Support

16-18 Students

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on the 31 August before your course starts, and you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for the Discretionary Bursary.

To be eligible you must be:

  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 on the 31 August in the year your course starts

  • Aged 19 and on the second year of the course you started before you turned 19 (Referred to as 19+ Continuers)

  • Aged 19-25 with an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan)

In addition to the above, the household you live in must also be in receipt of an income-based benefit from the list below and this evidence must be provided on your PayMyStudent Bursary application form.

 

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)

  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (in receipt of NASS payments)

  • The guarantee element of State Pension Credit

  • Universal Credit with net earnings not exceeding the equivalent of £7,400 per year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Asylum Seekers

 

If you are being supported under section VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, you may be able to apply for some support in kind to help with the costs associated with your course.
