Financial Support

If you are aged 16, 17 or 18 on the 31 August before your course starts, and you meet the following criteria, you may be eligible for the Discretionary Bursary.

To be eligible you must be:

• Aged 16, 17 or 18 on the 31 August in the year your course starts

• Aged 19 and on the second year of the course you started before you turned 19 (Referred to as 19+ Continuers)

• Aged 19-25 with an EHCP (Education Health Care Plan)

 

In addition to the above criteria, the gross annual income of the household in which you live must be below £30,000, or the household must be in receipt of one of the income-related benefits listed below. Supporting evidence must be submitted with your Pay My Student Bursary application.

Eligible benefits include:

​

• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 (NASS support payments)
• The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
• Universal Credit – Where a household receives Universal Credit, bursary assessments will take into account both earned income and the Universal Credit award shown on the claimant’s statement. The combined total household income must not exceed £30,000.

If you are being supported under section VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, you may be able to apply for some support in kind to help with the costs associated with your course.
