Applying for Support

What evidence do I need to provide?

To be eligible for financial support, you must have the legal right to reside in the United Kingdom at the start of your study programme and provide appropriate supporting evidence. All documents must clearly display your name and comply with ESFA funding guidelines

UK and Republic of Ireland

EU/EEA Settlement Scheme

Learners with status under the EU Settlement Scheme must provide evidence of their Settled or Pre-Settled Status, such as a UKVI share code or other official confirmation of their immigration status from the Home Office

Indefinite Leave to Enter or Remain

Learners with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) must provide evidence of their immigration status, such as a UKVI eVisa, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP), passport containing an ILR endorsement, or other official Home Office documentation confirming their settled status.

Humanitarian Protection, Discretionary Leave & Exceptional Leave

Learners with Humanitarian Protection, Discretionary Leave, or Exceptional Leave to Remain must provide evidence of their immigration status, such as a UKVI share code, eVisa, Biometric Residence Permit (where applicable), or official Home Office documentation confirming their status

Learners with Refugee Status must provide evidence of their immigration status, such as a UKVI share code, eVisa, Biometric Residence Permit (where applicable), or official Home Office documentation confirming their Refugee Status

Asylum Seeker

Asylum seekers must provide evidence of their status, such as an Application Registration Card (ARC) or official Home Office documentation confirming their asylum application is under consideration.

To be eligible for financial support, we need to see evidence of your income:

All bursaries are assessed, based on a maximum gross household income of £30,000 per annum (this includes your earned income and universal credit awards combined)
You will need to upload at least one of the pieces of evidence below
All benefit letters must be recent (within 3 months) and if older than stated below must be supported with a bank statement to confirm receipt of the benefit is ongoing

Household Income Evidence

Universal Credit

We must receive your most recent full Universal Credit statement, which must clearly show your name and address.

The statement provided must be your latest complete Universal Credit assessment statement and include details of your take-home pay and the total Universal Credit award received after any deductions.

To enable an accurate assessment of your application, we may ask you to provide your three most recent full Universal Credit assessment statements.

Asylum Seekers

We will need to see your Aspen card or Home Office letter confirming you are receiving support under part VI Immigration and Asylum Act 1999.

Employment and Support Allowance/Pension Credit

We will require a letter confirming the benefit you receive, dated within the last three months. If the letter is older, we will also need a recent bank statement showing a payment received within the last three months. The details on both documents must match your personal information.

Employed/Self-Employed

We will need to see the last three consecutive pay slips for all household members working or a P60 for the previous tax year (i.e. April 2026) for all household members working. The total gross pay before tax must be under £30,000.

All applicants must have a bank account in their own name and evidence of bank details must be provided on their bursary form.

Asylum Seekers

If you are an Asylum Seeker you do not need to provide bank details as your support will offered in kind and there will be no cash payment.

How do I change my bank details?

You must notify us in writing by sending a email to studentsevices@wlc.ac.uk
You must confirm the new bank details and provide further official bank detail evidence for this account.

Where payment have bounced student will be notified via email to provide further evidence and all future bursary payment will be stopped until bank details are confirmed.

All correspondence regarding college 'Bursary Funds' will be communicated through your college email.

Advanced Learner Loan Evidence

If you are applying for 19+ Advanced Learner Loan Bursary, you will also need to upload evidence that your Advanced Learner Loan has been approved.

If you are 19+ and studying on a Level 3 course, but have chosen to not have an Advanced Learner Loan, you will not qualify for any financial help through the college bursary funds.

Childcare Support Evidence

If you are applying for childcare you will need to upload the following additional evidence to your online application on Pay My Student.

Your child's full birth certificate or passport, which includes your name, for all children you are requesting support for.
The name, address and contact details for your childcare provider that includes a contact name, phone number and email address

Please note: we do not find or arrange childcare providers, it is your responsibility to find a suitable childcare provider and secure a place before providing us with your childcare provider details. We will be in contact with your childcare provider to complete our own checks and set up any support payments if childcare support is approved.
